Unconventional Anxiety Treatments: 5 Alternative Treatments for Anxiety

For many people, alternative anxiety treatments can bring relief from their symptoms when medical approaches (like using anti-anxiety medications) have failed. Not everyone responds to well to prescription drug treatment for anxiety. The side effects and potential withdrawal symptoms can sometimes outweigh any perceived benefit from the drug, especially over the long-term.

Alternative anxiety treatments have the benefit of not relying on habit-forming medications, and many have been thoroughly researched in universities around the world to determine both effectiveness and safety. Although the medical community in the United States continues to focus on medication as a cure for anxiety, there is a growing movement among doctors and researchers toward a more natural or holistic approach to this common emotional problem.

Contrary to popular misconception, anxiety is not a disease or “medical disorder.” Anxiety is in fact an emotional state, most commonly associated with an impending feeling of doom, apprehension, insecurity and worry. These feelings can produce very real physical anxiety symptoms. The most common of these are dizziness, breathing difficulties (hyperventilation), rapid heart beat, chest pains, and upset stomach or nausea.

To calm the physical and mental symptoms of anxiety, and its more acute cousin: the panic attack, there is growing evidence that alternative treatments are often as effective as pharmaceuticals, without the potential for harmful side effects. We’ll briefly review five well-documented alternative treatments for anxiety.

1. Diet Changes to Reduce Anxiety. It is well known that caffeine can contribute to anxiety; as can excessive amounts of sugar or alcohol. Many anxiety sufferers find relief from their symptoms by simply modifying their diet. Eliminating stimulants such as caffeine and replacing them with herbal teas (for example) can make a great difference over the course of a few weeks. Chamomile Tea and Skullcap tea are two herbal blends that have long been reported to have soothing affects.

2. Natural Herbs and Supplements. St. John’s Wort has received a great deal of attention in the media for its calming effects, and has been researched extensively to ensure that it is safe to use. This natural herb has also been shown to be an effective treatment for moderate depression. Melatonin is another supplement that has long been used to combat sleep disorders and insomnia. There are now several studies that suggest melatonin may also be an effective anti-anxiety treatment.

3. Guided Visualization Techniques. Evidence suggests that using visualization techniques to change the emotional state can be as effective as many prescription drugs for anxiety. These techniques can be used independently, or while listening to a guided visualization CD or tape, to assist the user in “visualizing” more peaceful harmonious feelings throughout the body. The combination of soft relaxing music and gentle guidance can be quite relaxing, and when used consistently, can help to reduce both physical and emotional anxiety symptoms.

4. Breathing Exercises. Proper breathing techniques can contribute to a more peaceful, relaxed state of well-being. As hyperventilation is a common problem among anxiety sufferers, practicing controlled breathing exercises can help reduce anxiety symptoms, and reduce the chances of hyperventilating in a high anxiety situation.

5. Relaxation Techniques and Exercises. Research suggests that practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga or tai chi can help reduce anxiety. Practicing meditation has also been shown to calm the mind, promoting feelings of well-being. Tai chi in particular can be beneficial, as it encourages mindfulness and controlled breathing.

Each of these alternative anxiety treatments can be beneficial in its own right, and many natural health practitioners suggest using one or more of these treatments simultaneously, in order to affect the greatest change in the user’s emotional state and eliminate the “mental environment” that allows anxiety to flourish. Remember, it is important to talk to your doctor before using natural anxiety treatments, taking herbs or supplements, or beginning an exercise program.

Essentials for School Supply Shopping

Shopping for school supplies can be exciting, but it is also rather confusing, particularly as your children get older and have more complicated needs. This article will provide you with the basics that you will need to have for your school aged children, but you should also ask for the supply list from the school they attend. The school supply list will have the specific list of supplies needed for each grade and often where you can buy each item, making school shopping much easier.

All students will need the following items:

Adhesives: This would include glue, glue sticks and tape. Find out which kinds are necessary before buying, since various school projects will require different types of adhesives.

Folders: Pocket folders work best as they make it pretty much impossible to lose the papers inside them. If your child is accident prone, get the plastic, waterproof kind.

Measuring instruments: A ruler is usually the necessity in this case. Older children may need to have triangular rulers as well as a compass for circles. There are great kits available that include everything necessary for measuring.

Paper: Notebooks, loose leaf and a binder or two to keep it all together will be necessary. Be sure to check with the school before buying ruled paper, since many teachers require different types for their classes. Younger children may also need construction paper.

Scissors: Get the child-safe ones for smaller children, pointed ones work well for older kids.

Writing instruments: Pens, pencils, and markers all fall into this category. Younger children should have fairly basic supplies, since they may have difficulties organizing super packs of markers or crayons. No. 2 pencils are best and older students will need ballpoint pens. Along with these, students will need erasers and pencil sharpeners.

Once your children reach high school, they will need more advanced school supplies, including the following:

Calculator: The type of calculator your child is allowed to use will depend on the teacher. Many require only simple calculators, so be sure to check before investing in a heavy duty one.

Combination locks: These are to safeguard lockers and are definitely necessary.

Index cards: Plain and ruled are good. Make sure you get standard size, since some school classes won’t accept those that are larger or smaller.

While these are the most vital school supplies that will be required, you will want to expand a little on the list. It is difficult for children to stay organized, particularly in the lower grades when they have huge quantities of art supplies. To help your child stay tidy, you will want to get them a backpack and at least one box or pencil bag to keep art supplies in. A smaller box is ideal for storing all those markers and dozens of crayons, making it easier to find the item needed, while a larger one can work well to keep larger items in. An art apron can be very useful in protecting clothes, if the school doesn’t provide one.

Shopping for school supplies is likely to turn into a great adventure and you should be sure to have a list with you, yours or one provided by the school, so you won’t miss anything. Take full advantage of all the back to school sales and stock up for the year. For example, your little one will use at least 3 glue sticks during the year, so buy them all now at discounted prices and save money in the long run.

Above all, enjoy shopping for the supplies your children need for the school year. By being organized, you can ensure that it is a good experience for all involved.

Shooping for school supplies has never been that easy. Shop online and collect Air Miles rewards.

Mobility Scooters - How Good Are They ?

Mobility scooters have made the lives of those who are physically handicapped easier and more convenient. A mobility scooter is like a wheelchair, but with a motor attached. A scooter usually has a basket attached that allows a person to go shopping or just carry added extras that they might need.

A mobility scooter has many advantages, but the scooters of today also have limitations that many people do not realize. However, if a person does their homework before purchasing one of the many power chairs available, then the advantages can far outweigh the disadvantages.

The advantages of mobility scooters may heavily outweigh the disadvantages for those who are physically challenged. One of the main advantages of the scooters is that, for some people, if they lack the stamina in order to maintain the wheelchairs manual maneuvers, then this problem is solved. Another positive for the scooters is one that many would not even think to consider.

The foot rests of a manual wheelchair are sometimes very difficult to manage. However, with a scooter a person can swivel the seat and easily get out. One of the best things about a scooter is that many insurance carriers will cover them, whereas they will not cover powered wheelchairs. This is another reason why people invest in scooters as opposed to an electric wheelchair.

Limitations of mobility scooters are plentiful, even for those who may think otherwise. If a person wants to travel around town in a scooter, then they should think of their path and how high the curbs are. Scooters sit very low to the ground and many times they are not able to navigate around certain areas of city streets.

Other limitations include the make of the chair and the ability to move the scooter in small places, such as nursing home rooms. With so much useful information available on the internet, a person should have no problem in deciding if a scooter is right for them.

Mobility scooters are great for those who may not be able to get around easily. Power scooters have both advantages and disadvantages. A person who needs a scooter should really pay attention to what they are purchasing if they want to invest in something that will last forever.

A handicapped person should feel good about the choices that they have available to them in today’s society. No longer does a person have to feel cut off from the world.

Why Villas Are A Good Choice For Holidays

This year I plan to make my second visit to Spain as enjoyable as it was the first time I visited, the difference being I plan to do more sightseeing and maybe a little less sunbathing! My last accommodation was a self-catered apartment, based in the most popular holiday resort of Mallorca. The disadvantage of having your own apartment is that you do not receive the same sort of service as you perhaps would in a normal hotel. However, my apartment did receive a weekly room cleaning service, which was at times frustrating if you plan to have a lie-in!

My plans for this year’s holiday will be to opt towards a Spanish property rentals accommodation. There has been a recent growing trend into staying at a privately owned home, with many of these people travelling as a couple or on their own. This option is something that was not very common in the past as the more popular and common option was to book a hotel or hostel. However, hotels are still top on the list for holiday accommodation, but newer options are pointing towards self-catering rented homes.

Booking an accommodation can be a daunting task as it is hard to decide what exactly you will need, but for those looking to have a relaxed and cultural experience will benefit in residing in a privately owned home. There are Spanish property rentals agency, specifically for holidays and short-lets, who can direct you towards choosing an appealing villa/apartment with luxurious facilities and located near an attractive location. However, some agencies tend to charge more as a fee for their services.

The advantage of approaching a Spanish property rentals agency is that you are guaranteed to find a property quickly and will have someone to contact should there be any problems. Renting from a private owner will eliminate the problems of hidden charges and fees, however, there is no guarantee of an immediate point of contact and assistance should any issues arise.

In both cases, you are at peace of mind for having your own privacy whilst residing in the villa, as well as having the freedom to come and go as you choose. There are no curfews and you would have no worry of someone else entering into your space therefore you will have complete independence in your lodging.

More people prefer the prospect of travelling abroad and booking accommodations that allow self-catering. People are not prepared to allow outsiders into their space and this could quite possibly be because of people being more possessive over their belongings. This way they can keep track of everything in the room and not feel tied down to a specified routine. Renting out a property provides all of these options and a feeling of homeliness whilst on holiday at the same time.

Anna Stenning is knowledgeable on Spanish property rentals as she is hoping to travel to Spain this year and reside in a villa rather than a hotel. For more information visit http://www.cloverestates.co.uk/spanish.html/property/rentals

Networking 2.0: Midlife Career Change For the 21st Century

When “career counselor” was a new word (and a “coach” blew the whistle at basketball practice), we all read the Parachute book. The standard career advice line went something like this:

“People are bored. They love to talk about what they do. So call them up and ask for information. Eventually someone will offer you a job.”

In my experience, that advice is as outdated as the typewriters we used back when the first Parachute edition appeared in the bookstores.

Today networking matters more than ever before. But you have to work your way into everyone’s outrageously busy schedule.

(1) Create a professional presence on the Internet, using Facebook, Myspace, and/or LinkedIn. Zoodango has become popular among corporate executives.

You can be outgoing and personal but share only what your next uptight business contact needs to know…unless you refuse to ever work with the uptight set, which is another article.

It’s no accident that my “personal” public persona showcases my dog, with occasional glimpses of the cats. I’ve seen too many innocent disclosures get distorted… anyone following the Amanda Knox case?

(2) Attend professional meetings and conferences.

In some fields, you’ll make awesome contacts. In others, you’ll just get information about what’s really happening, outside your own office.

And when you need to make calls, you may be able to say, “I’d like to use your name when I call your associate at MegaBig company…”

Or, “Do you know anyone who worked at SoNew Company? I’d like to get more info before applying…”

(3) Go back to school the grown-up executive way.

If appropriate, consider teaching courses at local universities and learning centers. Choose topics that enhance your most marketable strengths.

You won’t get rich from the stipends but you get exposure and credibility. You’ll often make some helpful contacts and gain new perspectives on the field.

Or consider the other side of the desk.

If you have funds and opportunity, a graduate degree can open doors - not just from the degree, but also from contacts you make. Programs offering face-to-face meetings on weekends or evenings tend to be most effective - and I have met people who got jobs through fellow students.

(4) Attend networking events designed for business owners (even if you love the corporate world and plan to stay forever).

You never know. Remember the Mary Poppins line: “I’ll stay till the wind changes.” I’ve met many savvy business people who encountered a tornado in their own offices.

When that happens, especially if you’re over 50, you may see income faster from self-employment than from sending out resumes. I wouldn’t stop job-hunting but hey, why not explore this path too?

Being around business owners will give you a boost: “If they can, I can.” And if you think like an entrepreneur, you may find corporate life a little easier to take (and more rewarding, too).

Just about everyone who attends those meetings has corporate contacts…and they’re very comfortable making referrals and introductions. That’s how they grow their own businesses.

(5) Talk to everybody.

One of my acquaintances found herself sitting next to some corporate executives at a basketball game. Turns out they were using tickets from a corporate sponsor…and that company often had openings in her field. That particular contact didn’t lead to a job, but she did gain some ideas that she used to make a quantum career leap.

University alumni groups tend to be especially friendly and open. It’s an easy place to say, “I’m looking for a job in X industry. Do you know…”

Bottom Line: We’re not calling strangers anymore to ask for “advice.” Everybody knows what you’re really after…and if they don’t, they’re too clueless to help. But we have newer, more user-friendly and more effective ways to build a network (before we *need* one).

Does Consistently Changing Jobs Negatively Impact Your Career?

Change is said to be the only constant in life. But change for the sake of change could have a negative impact in your life. When it comes to your career there are times a change of jobs is necessary but there are certain times it does more harm than good. Changing jobs is good - it widens your horizons and gives you a chance to stretch yourself out of your comfort zone. However consistently changing jobs could have repercussions that you need to consider.

Most people seek a job change when they feel that there is something lacking in their present job. However, there is no reason to consider a job change as the first step. Look into what is bothering you at your current position and look into ways to fix the problem. Is it boredom, a lack of motivating work or a toxic boss or colleague? Once you pin point why you are unhappy in the first place you can go about finding solutions to your problems. Acquiring new skills and changing into another field of work within the same company or asking for an internal transfer into another team are several ways to fix your current situation.

If this is not possible or you are denied any chance of change within your existing job then it might be time to look for a new job. But this should only be your absolute last resort. There is nothing wrong with changing jobs to get what you believe is fair treatment or compensation. The problem begins when you think that frequently changing jobs might solve all your problems at work. Consistently changing jobs may slow down your growth in your career.

Hopping from one job to the other may affect the way you rise in your chosen career. Employers want loyal employees; they only promote people who they can trust. Changing jobs consistently may affect the way you are perceived by your employers as you may be seen as someone who is always chasing the next big thing.

Think twice about changing jobs simply to gain an increase in salary. If you consistently change jobs just to increase pay, you will be perceived by your future employers as lacking in stability. You might enjoy immediate financial rewards but you may be damaging your career beyond repair. Always have long-term goals in mind and not just short-term goals before you take the leap. Keep in mind that employers might hesitate to employ the frequent “job hopper” as they are afraid that you might be tempted whenever another high paying job shows up. You don’t always have to change jobs get a salary increase. You could approach your present employer and let him know about the other opportunity that pays more and get your pay increased.

Before taking the next job change leap, make sure you take time to put things in perspective. Weigh the pros and cons; make sure you are not just being motivated by instant gains like immediate increase in pay and other perks. Remember that people who wait long enough to build themselves and their companies are usually trusted with higher positions easily.

10 Powerful Tips to Improve Self Confidence

If you find yourself feeling like you’re “in a rut” and not appreciating yourself as much as you should, there are simple changes you can make to improve self-confidence and take charge of your life again. Confidence affects every area of life, from relationships to the workplace. And improving your self-confidence will always have a beneficial effect on both your relationships with others, and your ability to handle the little ups and downs that life can throw at us from time to time.

As a personal development coach, I have worked with many individuals to increase self-esteem and self-acceptance. The following 10 tips have proven time and again to improve self-confidence for a wide variety of people.

1. Clothes Make the Man and Woman. Yes, it’s an old cliche’, but that doesn’t make it any less true. When we dress confidently, we feel confident. Try this experiment: for one week, dress like the person you want to be, NOT the person you think you are. This one is simple change can dramatically improve self-confidence.

2. Stop Trying so Hard. Improving confidence should not be about struggling. Give up trying to be a perfectionist, and give yourself permission to be a human being who will naturally make mistakes sometimes. A sure-fire way to feel inferior is to set the bar too high in every area of your life. Cut yourself some slack — you deserve it.

3. Focus Your Attention Outward. Lack of confidence often causes people to focus an inordinate amount of attention inward, on the “self.” Make it a point to focus more attention on others than you do on yourself. Remember, confident people focus outward — insecure people focus inward.

4. Avoid Energy Vampires. All of us know someone who seems to “suck the energy” out of a room just by entering. Give yourself permission to minimize contact with these people. Don’t hate them or judge them in any way. Just recognize that they do not improve the quality of your life, and minimize your connection with them.

5. Take a Chance. Try something new and different that you may have been apprehensive about in the past. Enroll in an adult education class, or join a book club, gym, bowling league or other social pastime. Shake up your life a little bit. The change will do you good, and your self-confidence will improve.

6. Be a Giver. There is an old proverb that says “you only get what you give.” With that in mind, start giving what you want to receive in life. Make other people feel as confident and worthwhile as you can. By helping to build up confident feelings in others, you are sure to get back the same thing. Call it karma or what ever you like — it always works.

7. Practice Forgiveness. Many people are very hard on themselves because, deep down, they have not forgiven themselves for something in their past. If you’re clinging to some failure or transgression from the past, recognize that you are doing it and then forgive yourself completely for whatever it was. Likewise, if there is someone else in your life you need to forgive, make it a point to do so. NOT for their sake — but for yours. When we forgive, we purify our heart and start anew.

8. Affirmations: Ask Yourself the Right Questions. Some people repeat affirmations such as “I am self confident,” which is fine, but you can improve your affirmation results by using leading questions such as, “why am I so confident?” The subconscious mind operates in a very simple manner. When you ask it a question like this, it will immediately go to work looking for the answer, and it will report back to you all of the ways you already are confident.

9. “Model” Other Confident People. One way to improve self-confidence is to model the behavior of people whom you consider to be supremely confident. If you can befriend a very confident person, that’s great. But if not, just find an actor or other celebrity who is confidence personified, and study their behavior. Do this several times a week, and some of their confident mannerisms are bound to rub off on you.

10. Practice Gratitude. A grateful mind is a peaceful mind, and a peaceful mind radiates confidence. Practice making a daily gratitude list, and particularly focus on different aspects of yourself that you appreciate. Maybe you are a great swimmer, or good at math, or really strong, or a good dancer, or have an unusual sense of humor, or are good at design, or a great singer, or a really good friend, or any number of other positive attributes. Look for what is great about you, and then be grateful you have those qualities. Appreciating your good qualities will improve self-confidence, and help you develop the kind of positive self-image that is crucial to success in life.

Finally, you can improve self confidence without endless affirmations or struggling! Discover how to build self confidence the easy way.

Car Buyers Urged To Seek Best Loans

Increasing numbers of insurance firms and other personal finance bodies are warning consumers not to let their desire for a new car cloud their sense of value.

With less than a fortnight remaining until the release of the new 08 number plates across the UK, many motorheads are sure to be checking their wallets to see if they can splash out on a new vehicle. However, regardless of whether the dream purchase is a hotrod or simply a reliable runaround, consumers are being advised to look for the best low rate loans available to fund the deal.

According to insurer esure, considering how to finance the exchange when splashing out on a new car is “way down the list of motorists’ priorities”. It claims that while one in six (15 per cent) consumers spend a significant number of hours turning the pages of car magazines and researching on the internet to establish which car they want to buy, as many as one in three spend less than an hour considering how they intend to support the purchase. Additionally, many do not understand the lingo involved, with more than nine in ten (92 per cent) unable to define lease purchase - an industry term for forecourt finance. Many commentators have asserted that low rate loans are a more cost efficient way of dealing with the financial outlay of buying a car.

Insurer esure also observes that the price of a vehicle is not always as concrete as it might appear when first venturing on to the forecourt. “The price tag on a new car is never fixed in stone and haggling could potentially result in savings of hundreds of pounds, yet only two thirds of Brits (65 per cent) would negotiate or bargain on the price of the new car,” the company states. “Surprisingly, Brits are more likely to negotiate at a car boot sale to save their pennies (78 per cent) rather than on a car forecourt to save their pounds.”

Price comparisons site moneysupermarket has also added its voice to those warning against forecourt finance. It suggests that those looking to buy a new car but failing to seek out the best low-rate loans could fritter away almost 1,000 pounds on interest payments alone. Furthermore, it estimates that, should the expected 425,000 new cars being purchased next month involve forecourt finance, a total of 402 million pounds in extra interest could be shelled out by the buyers. Tim Moss, head of loans at moneysupermarket, said: “It is vital to shop around for the best deal to finance your new car to help you avoid paying over the odds.”

Low-rate loans are not only useful for covering the costs of an initial purchase, however. According to figures published last year by price comparisons service uSwitch, young drivers could also find that their premium costs have a significant impact upon their financial situation. Furthermore, any convictions accrued could cause their premiums to soar by as much as 55 per cent, at which point a low-rate loan might be a convenient way of spreading the burden.

The Power of Positive Affirmations to Enhance Your Self-Image and Create an Abundant Life

I was once asked an intriguing question by one of my clients.

“Won’t saying positive things to myself make me delusional, especially when I don’t believe them to be true?”

Now, isn’t that interesting? You see, many of us say negative things to ourselves and about ourselves on a continuous basis, e.g. “Stupid!” “Clumsy!” “Fool!”

And, we say these things so often that we begin to accept them as FACT.

In reality, they are lies that we say to ourselves but even if you repeat a lie often enough you will soon start to believe it. This is particularly true when a lot of emotion is put into it as is generally the case when we say negative things to ourselves.

The negative self-talk is usually accompanied by feelings of anger, frustration, humiliation, resentment, etc. and often leads to depression. These emotions allow the self-talk to penetrate the sub-conscious mind.

Repeating these sentiments over and over again is like seasoning meat. Imagine rubbing seasoning into a piece of meat and perhaps even making small incisions so that the seasoning can penetrate deep into its flesh, imparting its flavor. However, the herbs and spices that you have selected are pungent and bitter so that when you taste the cooked meat it is not palatable.

Now here’s the curious thing. Even although you don’t like the end result you keep using the same recipe. The finished product still tastes just as bad but you begin to convince yourself that it’s ok. Heck! You could get used to this - perhaps even grow to like it. You say to yourself that this is just the way things are and you don’t do anything about it. It’s too much effort to change.

Yes, you start to rationalize.

But you can change and while it may take some effort the results are so worth it - once you find your winning combination. You could share your new recipe with others. You could even sell your new recipe!

So how do you effect change? Simply put:

1. Stop the negative self-talk, and
2. Use positive affirmations on a daily basis.

Using positive affirmations regularly will commence the gradual process of the re-conditioning your sub-conscious mind. It’s like trying to restore a ruined and neglected house that was once a beautiful, well-kept home with flourishing gardens. The restoration work will take time, patience, attention to detail and a methodical, persistent approach. Yet, once achieved it will not only bring enormous joy to its owner, it will have a positive effect on all those who glimpse this beautiful dwelling.

It won’t be easy. Your old self image will put up a fight. It doesn’t like change. Change feels uncomfortable.

Also, we are trained to assess situations using just our basic senses. Hence, when your bank statements shows a low, or perhaps even a negative, balance; when it seems that there are more bills than money to pay them; it is all too easy to think lack and poverty. Yet money is in abundance.

Similarly, when your blood tests and x-rays indicate a diseased body, it is difficult to focus on health. However, there are many documented cases where individuals have disregarded negative diagnosis and restored health to their bodies and sometimes even saved their own lives using the power of positive thought and affirmations.

Saying positive affirmations such as “I am rich”, “I have a healthy body” or “I am very successful” may seem crazy to someone who doesn’t understand mind dynamics. But even if your present circumstances do not support your positive affirmations, repeating positive affirmations forms an important role in conditioning your sub-conscious to produce the results you desire in your life.

Claude Bristol, author of “The Magic of Believing” said,

“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”

So, it’s no use just saying positive affirmations in an absent-minded fashion. You have to get emotionally involved with your new affirmations for them to become a “deep conviction”, to effectively take root in your sub-conscious mind and successfully replace your hidden image that is creating the results you don’t want.

I like to start my affirmations by saying - “I’m so happy and grateful now that I am” - a technique that was taught to me by Bob Proctor. The beauty of this is that it’s a positive affirmation all on its own!

Also, gratitude opens up channels so that you receive more of the things you want and appreciate.

So persist with your positive affirmations until they become deep-rooted in your sub-conscious mind. Your reward will be an enhanced self-image and a more abundant life.

Can You Turn a Steel Building into a Residential Home?

One would look at a stainless steel building and not believe that it could be turned into a residential home. There are many components that stainless steel buildings lack that homes must have, so the work involved may be rather extensive. However, stainless steel buildings tend to be less expensive than the average home and may even still cost less if converted into a residential home.

But can it be done?

Yes it can. Believe it or not, a group of architects in 2006 actually turned steel shipping containers into homes. Because of this innovative accomplishment, they proved that such a feat is possible and have opened the doors to more steel structures being converted into residential homes. It first started with the military using steel storage containers as offices, showers, and bunkers.

It is true that these structures are lacking many of the components required for a home such as wood, but many of these buildings actually have teak floors and are insulated. The lack of components hasn’t hindered designers from turning steel buildings into residential designs since 1982. However, it isn’t something we see often, but the point is that it is actually being done. It is actually growing in popularity and there are architecture firms all over the world cashing in on the benefits.

They call these “Quick Houses’ and they can be two-stories at 2000 square feet with large glass windows and skylights. Such a structure is built by using 5 storage buildings, which provides the owner with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The price range can be anywhere between $76,000 and $160,000 depending on how much space the owner needs. This actually comes out to be around $100 or less per square foot.
The price is actually the same if not less than an actual home built from scratch.

The steel building is an existing structure that can be built upon by adding insulation if needed, carpeting the floors, adding drywall to the walls and actually creating rooms out of multiple buildings being sealed together. Bathrooms can be installed as well as heating and cooling systems. The possibilities seem to be endless, so the imagination can go a long way when turning a steel building into a home.

However, it is the building codes that tend to get in the way. Although steel buildings are stronger than other construction means, there are hurdles that must be taken care of before building can begin. There are some communities that do allow steel building construction and then again there are communities that do not. That simply comes down to the fact that new things tend to be accepted slower than the old. The truth is, though, that the fact that steel buildings can be converted into residential homes will eventually catch on and the industry will be booming.

Just think, the next time a home is built next door, it could be a steel building being converted into a residential home. Doing so provides strength and security that other construction means cannot do. Sure, it is a rather odd idea, but think about how steel can stand up to the elements. Those investing in a steel building to be converted into a residential home are more likely to have their home standing after a natural disaster than those who do not have steel homes.

Future Steel Buildings manufactures and distributes metal buildings. We have the steel building that will suit your needs perfectly.
