The Chevrolet Suburban was a large sport utility vehicle.. It is the longest lived continuous automobile nameplate that is still in production since 1935. But with the closure of Dodge Town Wagon in 1966, only General Motors was left manufacturing a vehicle branded as a “Suburban.” So in 1988, they were awarded with the exclusive trademark of the name.

Truckers Air Frustrations With Fmcsa And Bush

by Jim Arnold,

Recently, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released an announcement about extending a trucking pilot program. This particular program provides trucking jobs to Mexican owned and operated rigs. Why did FMCSA do this? Because they want to have one hundred Mexican trucking companies working American roads.

Letas be clear. This could kill the American trucking business. With cheaper alternatives available, local trucking jobs could disappear. How did this happen? Congress had not supported this plan. The Bush administration circumvented Congress by enacting this plan while Congress was in recess for the summer.

Making a bad situation for American truckers even worse is the fact that the FMCSA is not providing a level playing field for completion between American and Mexican truckers. American trucks must reach certain safety and security standards. The Mexican trucks do not have to meet these same standards. Not only is the FMCSA giving away American jobs, but they are not considering the impact this could have on public safety.

The U.S. does not have enough truckers. Right now, it is estimated that we are 11,000 truck drivers short. As the cost of fuel skyrockets and profit margins decrease this number will only get worse. Long haul routes will suffer the most, like Wal-Mart driving jobs, because of new economic realities.

Remember the controversy over Dubai companies taking over U.S. ports? Truckers think that the FMSCA and Bush administration do, and that is the reason for the air of secrecy about FMSCAas plan to put more Mexican trucks on American roads. They donat want the public to find out. The side effect is that truckers are in the dark about changes to their industry.

Congressmen and women are getting calls from their constituents asking why Mexican owned and operated trucks are being allowed free access across the border, but official FMCSA representatives on the issue remain tight-lipped, refusing to return calls to answer questions regarding the issue.

The Senate has attempted to stop the Mexican Truck Demonstration Program. Senator Byron Dorgan, the Democratic senator from North Dakota, amended the Senate Transportation Appropriations Bill to end funding for the program. The FMCSA, with the support of the Bush White House, continues the will of silence about the program.

The Bush administrationas time in office is coming to an end, and in these waning months they are attempting to push through all the legislation they can. Independent truckers are frantically attempting to publicize this issue. It is a race against time to save the American trucking industry.

Earn Big Bucks Due To Truck Driver Shortages

by Jim Arnold,

With the world economies slowing, and few thriving, the demand for goods has brought a slowdown for many jobs. At the same time, certain jobs are short of demand for employees. One of these jobs is trucking jobs. Recently, for parts of the world there is a truck driver shortage.

The war-torn Middle East has been particularly affected by a dearth of drivers, primarily due to the possibility of being caught in a cross fire while driving down the street. Due to this, many first class driver jobs are remaining unfilled. Those looking for high paying work in this field can work this to their advantage.

Countries like Iraq are experiencing the most difficulty hiring drivers, and are, therefore, willing to pay the most money. Iraq has always had a shortage of drivers to fill the available positions, and with the current war, these positions have been even harder to fill.

The number of Americans going to work in Iraq has risen due to the salaries they can earn. Truck drivers can easily earn a great deal more there than is possible in the United States. Many drivers, in fact, have been able to retire early due to the high earnings available.

These truck driving jobs arenat for your everyday rookie. These are big time jobs. These are jobs that involve high risk and danger. Sometimes, these jobs could mean you lose your life. That is why the demand is for class a drivers and more experienced drivers.

The intimidation doesnat outweigh the benefits of taking advantage of a truck driver shortage. Companies that need drivers in countries such as Iran or Iraq will pay top dollar for contract drivers. This means that a driver is not forced to live in this country for the rest of their life. It is only temporary.

This may seem as a very tempting offer. Make sure you meet the requirements. This shortage is because those are humble enough to walk away when they know they can not meet the demands of the job. As for others, they do not realize the opportunity that awaits them. Do your research to make sure it is the type of risk you are willing to take.

If you possess the right qualifications, this job could be perfect for you. You could easily earn double the salary of the average truck driver, just by helping to fill these vacancies. Check out the jobs for yourself, paying special attention to whether the job is permanent or temporary. When you know youare ready, take the job and take advantage of this money making opportunity.

Information About Commercial Truck Operation

by Jim Arnold,

Trucking is essential to any economy. With the use of commercial vehicles from box trucks to dump trucks, Truckers transport both raw materials and finished goods from the source to where it is needed. They are also responsible for distributing products throughout the country.

There are several requirements if one is interested in working in this essential industry. To be a truck driver, or trucker, one must first pass a Department of Transportation physical exam as well as a drug and sobriety test. Also, one must be at least 21 years old to qualify for the license that allows drivers to bring commercial vehicles across state lines.

A trucker should be able to read traffic signs and also make entries in Department of Transportation reports. He needs to clear a written exam and driving test for getting a commercial driveras license. A trucker must have a commercial driveras license to drive trucks across states. Truckers have to adhere to the rules regarding the safety of interstate commercial driving which are issued by the transport department.

The Department of Transportation regulates the amount of time drivers are allowed to operate their vehicles per day with rules known as ahours of servicea. This was devised in the interest of keeping drivers rested and avoiding accidents. Operators of commercial vehicles may drive for 11 hours, after which they are required to rest for ten hours. All drivers are to keep a log of their activity each day, broken down into 15 minute segments.

Compensation for truckers varies from specific job to job, and increases with experience. An entry level driver can usually expect to make $30,000 a year, quickly increasing to $50,000 to $60,000 a year with only a couple of years of experience. As in any industry, different companies offer varying wages based upon driving record, recommendations, type of truck, and difficulty of job. Some companies offer full benefits or bonuses.

Trucking industry is facing an acute shortage of long haul drivers. Trucking companies have started recruiting retired military veterans, minorities, women and people who want a second career. There are many openings for class a truck driving job as well as otr driving job listed on the net. Due to the shortage of truck drivers companies are coming out with new ideas to lure more people to driving jobs.

To hire more truck drivers some companies have started allowing the driveras spouse or pet for the ride. Middle aged husband and wife teams are getting popular as teaming up eases the grind of long haul and reduces the time away from home. This is working out well for the companies as well as the drivers.

Trucking industry is a vital part of any economy. Any restriction on truck travel will have serious implications on the economy like decrease in availability of medicines, food, vegetables, consumer goods, fuel, cash from ATMas, waste disposal and raw materials for manufacturing companies.

Toyota 50th Anniversary: A Brief History of Toyota Trucks

by Jason Lancaster

On October 31st 2007, Toyota Motor Sales celebrated exactly 50 years in the U.S. Since 1957, Toyota has grown from a small importer of economy vehicles to what will most likely become the largest auto manufacturer in the world. In short, Toyota is a success story. Being that Toyota trucks are so popular, I thought it might be a good time to briefly review the history of Toyota trucks in the U.S.

The first Toyota truck sold in the states was the 1963 Toyota LandCruiser truck. The Landcruiser truck was only available in small numbers for just four years (from 1963-67). Today, these vehicles are highly sought-after collector’s items. In addition to being imported to the US, the LandCruiser truck was produced by Toyota internationally for many years after 1967, and can still be found overseas.

Next, we have the Toyota Stout. Available in 1964, this was the obvious predecessor to 1969’s Toyota HiLux. The Stout, like the HiLux, was available in only one configuration - a regular cab and a four cylinder engine. The Stout’s last year was 1968, after which the Toyota Hilux Pickup truck was officially born.

Toyota’s HiLux was their first truck to achieve sales success. The “HiLux” name, as groovy as it sounds, was officially dropped from Toyota Trucks in 1975. From that point forward, all small Toyota trucks were known as “Toyota Pickups”. The HiLux/Toyota Pickup developed pretty fast. In 1975, Toyota offered the SR5 package for the first time. In 1979, Toyota offered a four-wheel-drive option on their truck. In 1983 Toyota offered the “Xtra Cab” Toyota Pickup and received a lot of praise for doing so. The Toyota Pickup’s value, quality, and performance helped Toyota achieve some cultural status. After all, who could forget the Toyota truck in the movie Back To The Future?

In 1993, Toyota introduced their first attempt at a true full-size pickup, called the T100. Many people disliked the T100 — it was supremely lacking in terms of power for a full-sized truck — a V8 engine was not available. The truck did have some fine points, however, and there are some very loyal T100 owners who argue the T100 was one of best trucks Toyota ever made. Regardless, the T100 was a sales flop.

The generically named “Toyota Pickup” got a real name in 1995, officially labeled the Tacoma. Abbreviated as the “Taco” by some, it is revered by off-road enthusiasts everywhere as an excellent combination of performance, power, and reliability. Not surprisingly, the Tacoma is easily Toyota’s biggest sales success in the U.S. truck market. Toyota’s Tacoma was also an excellent value in the work-truck configuration, being one of the most inexpensive trucks on the market.

Toyota released their next attempt at a full-size truck, the 2000 Tundra, in 1999. This new full-size featured a powerful 4.7L V8, as well as a larger frame, interior, and greater hauling and towing capabilities than the T100. When the Tundra debuted, it was a hit. It was named Motor Trend’s “Truck of The Year” in it’s first year of production, and sales topped 126k units in 2004.

Toyota brought out a completely re-designed Tacoma in 2004. This new larger Tacoma managed to rival it’s big-brother, the Tundra, in size and power. Despite this new Tacoma being the biggest and most expensive Taco yet, it still managed to honor Toyota’s compact pickup roots in terms of value and off-road performance. The new Tacoma has been nothing short of a complete success, as it is currently the best-selling compact truck on the market.

Finally, in 2007, Toyota released the 2nd generation Tundra. This truck silenced all the critics that said Toyota’s full-size trucks were really only 7/8th size, as well as offering the most powerful engine in the marketplace. The new Tundra has been extremely popular, setting sales records for Toyota in the full-size market. A lot of the new Tundra’s success is because of it’s class-leading 10,800 lb tow rating, made possible by the powerful 5.7L V8 and 6 speed automatic transmission.

What will Toyota come up with over the next 50 years? The future could bring a hybrid truck, the first diesel offered by Toyota in the US, there is even talk of selling a small, simple, and inexpensive truck as a Scion. Whatever happens, it’s definitely going to be exciting!

If you do choose the auction site route, such as eBay or even a site like amazon, simply search under the auto section, and then go to “parts” or “accessories” and look for whatever you want under those sections. I like eBay and amazon for two different reasons. I like eBay because you can find used or new parts that people are willing to give up for a few bucks. Either way you choose, discount performance website, auction site, or sites like amazon, I’m positive you will find whatever it is your looking for with out it costing you an arm and a leg!

The Story of Subaru’s Outback, from Infancy to Adulthood

In America, Subaru’s sales were seeing a slump during the early 1990’s as the SUV was becoming ever more popular. Introduced in 1995, it was the Outback’s job to help revive sales. The Subaru Outback and its parts were typical Subaru, with a flat-head H6 engine (commonly referred to as a “boxer” engine) and all-wheel drive, but its target market and intended use were quite different from the usual Subaru offering.

First Generation

Originally sold in the U.S. as a trim option for the Legacy known as the “Legacy Outback,” the first generation Outback was named for the remote area of Australia of the same name — meant to indicate the Outback’s reliability and ability to take on such rugged conditions — and had a “SUV look” about it in order to compete with better selling autos from the likes of the Ford Explorer, Chevrolet Blazer, and so forth.

It was only a year later, however, that the Outback’s popularity — thanks, in part, to its better mileage than most SUV’s — was to become its own model, dropping its association with the Legacy and being given unique features such as a bumper with integrated driving lights, taller tires with aggressive treading, and higher clearance than other models.

This made the Outback a “crossover” vehicle, or a vehicle that was a cross between a car and an SUV, though not entirely either one of those. The Outback was heavily marketed to the SUV-seeking crowd which is where it found its greatest success.

To differentiate the Outback from the SUV, the 4-door model was referred to as an SUS (sport utility sedan) while the 5-door model was marketed as “the world’s first sport utility wagon,” or SUW. A third model, the Outback Sport, was based on the Impreza model.

A unique traction control system that directs power to wheels with the most traction when the system detects a slipping wheel or wheels is one of Subaru’s biggest selling points, so it’s no surprise that the Outback received this same traction control system as standard equipment on all models.

Second Generation

Changes between first generation and second generation Outbacks are largely unseen (aside from the obvious cosmetic differences of the exterior and interior design). For example, improvements were made to the traction control system, the braking system was improved, new features were added to the automatic transmission, and the engine’s horsepower and torque were increased.

Viewed by many consumers as a step backwards was the decision to no longer have fold-down rear seats that allowed for additional trunk space when needed.

Third Generation

Additional features added to the third-generation Outback include a beefed up transmission, and enlarged grill. The 4-cylinder model sports a PZEV (partial zero-emission vehicle) certification and also meets SULEV (super ultra low emission vehicle) standards.

Finding Subaru Outback Parts for the Do-It-Yourselfer

Being the only major auto manufacturer to use the boxer engine configuration makes finding Subaru Outback parts difficult. This means that shade-tree mechanics often need to visit the dealer to find parts they are needed, although some of the larger auto parts chains will carry a large selection of aftermarket parts.

SubaruPartsForYou (http://www.subarupartsforyou.com) offers OEM Subaru Outback parts online for convenience and reduced overhead, saving you money. The author, Art Gib, is a freelance writer.
